 The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Vriddhachalam is the second KVK under the establishment of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and started functioning from 03.06.1985 at Vriddhachalam with financial assistance of ICAR and this KVK is serving the farming community of Cuddalore district for over 25 years
Mandate of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra
Technology assessment, refinement and demonstration with broad focus on the following,

Conducting “on-farm testing” for identifying technologies in term of location specific sustainable land use systems

Organize frontline demonstrations on various crop to generate production data and feedback information

Organize short and long-term vocational training courses in agriculture and allied vocations for the farmers and rural youths with emphasis on “learning by doing” for higher production on farms and generating self employment

Organizing training to update the extension personnel with emerging advances in agricultural research on regular basis

Objectives of This Kendra :

(i) On–farm testing in crop production, horticulture and livestock production

(ii) Frontline demonstration on major cereal crops, oilseeds, pulses and other enterprises related to agriculture

(iii) Organizing vocational training programme in agriculture and allied enterprises

(iv) In-service training for the field level extension officials.

Best KVK National Award 2009 : KVK, Vriddhachalam has been adjudged with the “National Krishi Vigyan Kendra Award for the Year 2009” at National Conference of Krishi Vigyan Kendra conducted at Udaipur, Rajasthan in 2010.

Citation

The KVK under the various capacity building exercises conducted 2140 courses for farmers, rural youth, unemployed persons, extension functionaries and others in which there were 64104 participants with 37.02% representation by women. To prove the production potentialities of the newly developed varieties and crop production technologies for large-scale adoption the FLDwere laid out in 2710 farmer's field in 1316.7 ha by the KVK,Cuddalore. It also acted as knowledge and resource centre for implementation of Precision farming in farmers holdings in 1020 ha under State Plan (20 ha) and NADP (1000 ha). The KVK produced Cashew grafts (23,938), Moringa 0,264), Jatropha (4,500) and other horti seedlings and supplied to 620 farmers. Seeds in groundnut 05.75 q), sesame (6.33 q) and black gram (5.25 q) were produced and covered in 175 ha. KVKestablished a high tech nursery in 2009. It also analyzed 3624 samples in soil (386) and water (238).
